Elisaveta Sivas – Sculpture

Who are you, what do you do, why do you do it? This is a difficult question. We think we know who we are, but I think we don’t. The truth is that I don’t know who I am. I guess the best answer will be that I am a soul in a human body and I am vivid and sensitive soul.

What is your relationship with your own mind?
I feel sometimes my mind goes out of my control and takes the control over me and over my heart.

How does your work relate to the theme the mind?
I am very interested in the the relationship between the mind and the human. In some of my artworks I try to explore this relationship and to express my ideas about it.

Is the human owning the mind or vice versa?
It depends on the human. I think many humans are owned by the mind. There are some who manage to control their mind.

Elisaveta Sivas – Getting out of the Brain

What has creativity / art taught you about your own mind?
That it could be very tricky with me sometimes.

Please tell us about the piece “Getting out of the brain”.

The piece above is one I have just finished, a ceramic sculpture with the title “Getting out of the brain”. Not fired yet (needs 2 months to dry well). I am trying to allegorically represent the relationship between human and mind. Human is literally trying to get out of his mind. He is eager to liberate himself. The angelic creature is trying to help set him free. While his own hand is keeping him a hostage of his mind.

At the end it looks like we do have rather tricky relationship with the mind. When we try to be ourselves we easily get into the trap.
