Georgina Alice – Photosynthesis
“If speaking kindly to plants helps them grow, imagine what speaking kindly to people can do.”
Who are you?
My name is Georgina Alice I am an interdisciplinary portrait artist who works with mediums such as film, photography, acrylic paint, charcoal, oil paint, and performance art.
What do you do?
I am a multi-disciplinary artist because I find myself coming up with a concept and finding the best medium for the work, but my heart is in oil painting.
Why do you do it?
I have been an artist since I was small – I think expression and getting your thoughts into the world is important and sometimes I find it is difficult to put my thoughts into words and that lead me into art. I pour a little piece of my soul into every piece. I have never thought about why I do it necessarily but I know I couldn’t live without it, it never felt like an option of just something I could or could not do… I just am.
How does your piece “photosynthesis” relate to the theme “The Great Outdoors”?
“Photosynthesis (if speaking kindly to plants helps them grow, imagine what speaking kindly to people can do)” relates to the theme “The Great Outdoors” because it reminds us that we are one with nature. In the title, it speaks about how people talk to plants and care for them which scientifically is proven to help plants grow more if people put the same care into people to help them grow as well maybe the world would be a nicer place. After all, we are essentially just more complex versions of plants.
What your favourite thing about nature / The Great Outdoors?
This is my first time I have not lived in the mountains and I miss the mountains a lot and being surrounded by nature constantly.
How has your connection to nature empowered you as a human?
Completely, I think being in nature is very grounding and spiritual. I know it is something I need constantly in my life.
