Tod Seitz – Digital Alchemy

2 minute read

Who are you?
Tod Seitz. Some know me as the Rebel from the East, Hot Todsy, or todoro… but I usually just go by Tod.

What are you doing?
Trying to make art that actually means something to me and hopefully other people.

Why do you do it?
Because being able to explore texture, color and form is fun for me.

How does your work relate to the theme alchemy?
I started learning about Alchemy a couple years ago and it takes quite a while to process and there is a lot of material to input. To be blunt, this should be taught in schools alongside Natural Law as it is a truly self-exploring and self-empowering blueprint that will never be provided by a guru, self-help book or religious institution. You have a right to understand the Self and how reality actually works.

I am an advocate for embracing happy accidents and have noticed many of my pieces can convey far deeper meanings then I could have possibly planned for. To be able to take existing images, symbols and textures and create a collage that can convey a message while also having a lot of elements the eye can travel through is one of my favorite aspects of making art. My hope is that it can convey meanings to those that are seeking and a ride for your eye if you’re looking to just enjoy the show.

Please tell us about one of your submitted pieces, what’s going on?

I titled this piece “htiaf rof pael” which is Leap For Faith backwards. Many of my pieces seem to emulate my current state of being and research, and I have an affinity for trying to aim for surreal/optical illusion type output. We live in a world made of language and as you can see, there are letters strewn about above, and below is a goal if you will. Freedom. How many of us even know what true freedom is? The male (left brain) is diving off the board into a pool of freedom. Intelligent feminine energies behind him (right brain), they are together. Intelligent feminine aspects, and the masculine taking a leap into what can only be freedom. Just like the title, chances are you are able to put that together in your head just by seeing the letters. It’s not a Leap OF faith though, because faith requires you take the leap.

What’s your interpretation of the link between art and alchemy?
There are a lot of Alchemical processes that occur when creating art, ie. sacrificing elements, refining shape and space, colors and symbolism; really just finding the gold within the piece (the philosophers stone if you will), as well as having a weekly deadline to prevent stagnation. Learning, creating, and evolving is the process of Alchemy and Art. Embrace it with courage, care, and patience.

Is there anything else you would like to add?
“You are a divine being. You matter, you count. You come from realms of unimaginable power and light, and you will return to those realms.” – Terence McKenna
