Purple Snow – We Are One
Who are you?
My Name is Lina Doenmez. Most of people know me as Purple Snow. Well, that’s my pseudonym.
What do you do?
I am a vibrant and colorful Fine Artist. Currently living and working in Cologne, where I continue to be inspired by the natural beauty surrounding me. My recent work explores relationships between natural landscape and pattern. Whether I look into the starry night sky or at a tangle of brush my interest in the way pattern exists in the world. Repetitive pattern establishes an order and structure that can be broken, disrupted and disconnected. It is within this disconnect that I find beauty, secrets and mystery. The size of the paintings almost asks the audience to lean in closer to see it all, so they can enter the image and imagine the rest of that story themselves.
Why do you do it?
I want that my art work splashes color and magic across walls everywhere. My paintings are to remind us that life can be happy, magical and carefree.
How does your piece “we are one” relate to the sun?
This is probably one of my favorite painting, one I always stop and look at. When I was painting it I just felt connected to the sun to the nature…to the universe …We are one with the Sun, the Air, the Earth and we don’t have a life, because we are life. We are life itself. I just wanted people to actually feel my work from their gut, because I was painting it from my gut. Whatever we are doing, whoever we are, we are life. Let us overflow with it.
What’s your relationship with the Sun?
There is a sunrise and a sunset every single day, yet there is never one sunrise or sunset that is the same it’s one of nature’s amazing free gifts to mankind. Sunset is the fiery goodbye kiss of the sun to another night of darkness, a setting sun which no candle can replace.
What’s the importance of The Sun in art / creativity?
Sunlight, the most precious gold to be found on earth, yet we lose it at the end of each day as night takes over. The stars take their place on the dark curtain of the sky, the leaves hush down their rustling and everything becomes shadowy and still. It’s that mystical moment in time when day and night meet fleetingly and twilight takes its magical place on the not yet darkened horizons a time when anything can happen, anything can be believed in, a merging that can offer the beholder the most enchanting moments of the twenty four hour-day. The colors of the sunset can arouse all manners of yearnings and passions in the soul of the beholder. It’s like the first stab of love, a blaze of colors, shades of yellow, orange, purple and pink…. My creativity is inspired from natural forms and systems, which I abstract and transform in my paintings.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
“Nothing is more important to us on Earth than the Sun. Without the Sun’s heat and light, the Earth would be a lifeless ball of ice-coated rock. The Sun warms our seas, stirs our atmosphere, generates our weather patterns, and gives energy to the growing green plants that provide the food and oxygen for life on Earth.” ~ NASA
